Fairmont managers pedal for Earth Hour

Recognising that environmental sustainably does not only last 60 minutes for Earth Hour, the team at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr will go the distance by generating 24 hours of clean, renewable ‘green’ energy to further support the biggest climate awareness campaign from the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Covering every time zone participating in Earth Hour globally, the lobby of the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr will be outfitted with stationary bicycles in a dedicated eco lounge area. With the use of dynamo technology and a full 24 hours of cycling shared amongst members of the hotel team, guests, dignitaries and the community, including students and faculty from the hospitality division of the European International College (EIC), will activate a film projector screening the Oscar award winning documentary on global warming – An Inconvenient Truth and the feature length film documentary The 11th Hour.

Henning Fries, general manager said: “We’re demonstrating our commitment to operational sustainability and to draw further attention to one of the world’s single largest environmental issues.”

Earth Hour also extends to the restaurants at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, including Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill, Frankie’s Italian Restaurant & Bar, and Elements with all non essential lights turned off between 8.30–9.30pm, candle lit dinners for guests, and a monetary contribution from each dining experience donated to the WWF.
