Ever had your website or email accounts interfered with by hackers? Well, sadly Abu Dhabi Week fell victim to one such group of unscrupulous individuals this week

It’s a good job that we’re smarter than they are and have already fixed the problem, thanks to a sneaky back-up system and a little emergency planning.

Even while our site was (briefly) down though, you could still read all of our news on facebook and twitter (as we always upload them each week). Competition lovers were also still able to enter all of our weekly contests by emailing their answers and contact details to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Apparently, the point of the attack was to highlight the lack of security in place on our system. Point made.

Although a good wake-up-call for us and a good reason to update our software, we have to ask the question: do these people just have too much time on their hands? I mean, it’s not as if we’re storing state secrets on AbuDhabiWeek.ae, just a few movie listings, reviews and community-related features.

It also begs the question: with all of that knowledge and obvious talent, why on earth would you waste your time hacking into other people’s websites?

Why not create something amazing of your own instead of destroying the hard work of others?

No wait … That would require imagination, creativity and a willingness to work hard to achieve your goals.
