Kick Ass

A new breed of superhero

anewbreed

Starring: Aaron Johnson, Nicholas Cage, Chloe Moretz
Directed by: Matthew Vaughn

Based on the critically acclaimed comic book series from writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr, Kick-Ass. tells the story of one Dave Lizewski (Johnson), an unassuming comic book geek who decides that the world needs superheroes more than he needs his physical well-being.

During his self-destructive journey of self-discovery as the costumed hero Kick-Ass, he gets tangled up with a couple of more capable heroes, Big Daddy (Cage) and his pre-teen potty-mouthed daughter Hit Girl (Moretz), and proceeds to get hurt … a lot.

The film combines the best elements of superhero films, dark comedies and action flicks, expertly blending side-splitting humour with bone-shattering action and the result is something endlessly entertaining.
Johnson is great as the film’s main protagonist, but it’s Nicolas Cage and young Chloe Moretz who really steal the show - they are quite superb as loving father and daughter who are at their happiest discussing new weaponry or slaughtering a band of bad guys.

It is violent, it is vulgar and the story is off-the-wall at times. But in the end, Kick-Ass earns its name in every way.
