Global superstar Jennifer Lopez encountered an unexpected setback during a shopping trip in Istanbul, just a day before her scheduled performance in the city. The singer and actress was reportedly refused entry to the Chanel store at Istinye Park after staff said the shop had reached full capacity.
According to witnesses, a security guard explained that the boutique was unable to accept any more customers at the time. Lopez responded with calmness, smiling and telling the guard, “Okay, no problem,” before leaving without protest.
The incident occurred on August 5, ahead of Lopez’s headline appearance at the Istanbul Festival in Yenikapi Festival Park, part of her Up All Night: Live in 2025 international tour. Rather than waiting to enter Chanel, Lopez opted to visit other luxury retailers in the area, including Celine and Beymen, reportedly spending tens of thousands of dollars during her spree.
Store staff later realised the high-profile visitor they had turned away and attempted to invite her back in. Lopez politely declined the offer, choosing to continue her shopping elsewhere.
Lopez’s visit to Turkey was the second in as many months. On July 23, she performed at the Regnum Carya Resort before celebrating her birthday there the following day. Her Istanbul stop forms part of a global tour set to conclude in Sardinia, Italy, on August 12.
In addition to her music career, Lopez appeared in the 2024 biopic Unstoppable, directed by William Goldenberg, alongside Jharrel Jerome, Michael Peña, Don Cheadle, and Bobby Cannavale. The film marked her most recent big-screen project before embarking on the tour.
The Chanel incident has drawn attention on social media, with fans debating the etiquette of luxury shopping and the challenges even celebrities face when stores reach their limits. Despite the minor setback, Lopez’s Istanbul visit has been characterised by packed performances, high-end shopping, and an enthusiastic welcome from her Turkish fans.
