Dinner for Schmucks

Bad table manners

badtable

Director: Jay Roach
Starring: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis

When Tim Conrad (Rudd) learns of an opportunity to win a promotion by impressing his bosses, he can’t quite believe his luck when the answer to winning it runs straight into the front of his car. The way to win is to find and bring an eccentric person with a special talent to a ‘dinner for winners’. Barry (Carell) – seemingly unharmed after running into Tim’s car to retrieve a dead mouse from the road – is most definitely eccentric. And his special talent? Being an idiot.

Tim thinks he’s on to an easy win, but handling Barry is less than easy and Tim begins to wonder who the bigger buffoon really is.

Inspired by the French film by Francis Veber, Le Dîner de Cons, Dinner for Schmucks is an attempt at screwball comedy that wastes the actors’ talents and does little to whet the appetite. A serious of naff gaffs and a seriously weak script will most certainly put you off a second serving. Disappointing stuff indeed.

Genre: Comedy
Age Restriction: Rated PG-13 for sequences of crude and sexual content, some partial nudity and language.
