Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son

Once, twice, three times a fake lady

bigmommas

Director: John Whitesell,
Starring: Martin Lawrence, Brandon T Jackson, Jessica Lucas, Michelle Ang

Martin Lawrence returns as FBI agent Malcolm Turner and as Turner’s deep-cover alter-ego Big Momma, but this time he has big backup – his teenage stepson Trent (Jackson).

Turner is joined by his wisecracking stepson as they go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. Posing as Big Momma and hefty co-ed Charmaine, they must find the murderer before he finds them.

So Big Momma is back, but the question we have to ask is why?

After Big Momma’s House and the inevitable sequel Big Momma’s House 2, the franchise rumbles on with the grammatically incorrect conclusion to the trilogy. Unfortunately, it’s not third time lucky. The film is still moronic, chauvinistic, clichéd and simply not funny as it serves up a load of half-baked slapstick, tedious dialogue and all-too predictable plot turns.

It’s a strange thing for a “comedy” to have you leave the cinema feeling more miserable than when you went in – but somehow Big Mommas manages it quite nicely.

Genre: Comedy
