Global biosciences company IFF has released its 2024 Do More Good Report, showcasing a year of meaningful environmental and social progress, as well as major innovations aimed at reducing emissions and promoting sustainability across its operations and product lines.

The annual report, released under the new theme The Science of Possible, is built around four key pillars: Conscious Sourcing, Intentional Innovation, Partnerships of Impact, and Operating for the Future. IFF, a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients and health sciences, reported that in 2024 alone, its solutions helped customers avoid 27.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions — a figure 16.5 times greater than its own manufacturing emissions.

IFF CEO Erik Fyrwald said the report reflects the company’s efforts to combine science, creativity, and purpose to tackle global challenges. “This report is more than a record of progress — it’s a reflection of our commitment to making the impossible possible through sustained innovation,” he said.

One of the most notable breakthroughs featured in the report is the company’s Designed Enzymatic Biomaterials™ (DEB) technology, which uses enzymatic polymerization of plant sugar to create sustainable biomaterials. These materials are positioned as viable alternatives to fossil-based ingredients in a wide range of personal care, home, and industrial applications.

According to the report, 79% of all new products launched in 2023–2024 carried a sustainability value proposition, directly supporting IFF’s 2030 goal for all innovations to positively impact people and the planet. The company also announced that 75 of its natural ingredients were certified “For Life” by the sustainability certifier ECOCERT, a move aimed at supporting both environmental conservation and farmer livelihoods.

In addition to product innovations, IFF continues to drive improvements in operational safety and ethical standards. The report notes a 5% reduction in its total recordable incident rate compared to the previous year and a 40% drop since 2021. All employees also completed ethics training during the reporting period.

The company’s leadership in sustainability has been widely recognized. In 2024, IFF earned top ratings from respected benchmarks such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (North America), EcoVadis Platinum, and the CDP Climate A List. It was also featured in USA TODAY’s America’s Climate Leaders 2025 and Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies 2025.

This latest report underlines IFF’s broader commitment to long-term environmental stewardship and ethical innovation. Fyrwald emphasized that the company’s progress is a testament to what’s possible when science meets purpose. “We’re working to bring the best of science, creativity and heart to everything we do,” he said.
