Kuwait Financial Centre “Markaz” has announced its sponsorship of a groundbreaking educational initiative in partnership with The English School (TES), introducing students to sustainable agriculture through a school-based vertical farming facility. The initiative aims to equip students with future-ready skills and environmental awareness, aligning with Markaz’s long-standing commitment to building human capacity under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.

The initiative is designed to offer hands-on, experiential learning, enabling students to understand the science and impact of indoor vertical farming. The in-school facility allows students to explore crop cultivation in controlled environments, observe how vertical farming can support food security, and consider how such innovations can provide localized solutions to global sustainability challenges.

Markaz’s support reflects its broader ESG-focused mission of translating global sustainability goals into practical, community-based actions. This initiative directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically:

  • Goal 4: Quality Education
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action

Ms. Sondos Saad, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at Markaz, emphasized the project’s long-term significance:

“We are proud to partner with The English School on this impactful initiative, which introduces students to practical approaches to vertical farming. Education rooted in real-world engagement is key to enabling the next generation of changemakers.”

TES Principal Ms. Alison Peterson praised the collaboration, noting the educational value of hands-on science in preparing students for real-world challenges:

“Thanks to the sponsorship of Markaz, our fantastic vertical farming facility will be an integral part of the education process. Our students won’t just learn about photosynthesis from a textbook — they’ll see it in action.”

The vertical farming project allows students to explore sustainability, food technology, and environmental care in an interactive way. It fosters not only scientific understanding but also critical thinking, responsible resource use, and innovation — all skills central to tackling the planet’s future challenges.

This initiative is part of a wider suite of Markaz-supported programs, including:

  • “Kuwait Commute”, a public transport design competition
  • “UniCODE”, a digital skills program in collaboration with Coded Academy

Together, these projects reinforce Markaz’s leadership in sustainable development, education innovation, and human capital growth in Kuwait. By empowering students to become environmentally conscious innovators, Markaz and TES are jointly planting the seeds for a smarter, greener future.
