Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel, managed by Accor, has appointed Shaileen Jiwa as its new General Manager, effective June 2025, as the iconic floating hotel begins its next chapter of growth in Dubai’s vibrant hospitality scene.

With over 20 years of international hospitality experience, Jiwa brings a wealth of operational knowledge, a reputation for people-focused leadership, and a passion for heritage destinations. She previously served as General Manager at MGallery Gem Forest Nairobi, and has held key leadership roles at Tribe and Trademark Hotels in Nairobi, the Drake Hotel, and Canada’s first Canopy by Hilton in Toronto.

“It is an honour and privilege to take the helm of this historic property,” said Jiwa. “The Queen Elizabeth 2 is more than a hotel — it’s a destination with a legacy, a story, and global recognition. I look forward to working with an exceptional team to deliver memorable experiences, foster a culture of excellence, and continue building on the ship’s remarkable heritage while shaping its future.”

A Strategic Appointment for a Storied Landmark

The Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), once a legendary ocean liner, has been transformed into a luxury floating hotel permanently docked in Dubai’s Port Rashid. Under Jiwa’s leadership, the hotel is expected to further cement its reputation as a heritage destination, attracting global visitors seeking a unique blend of history and hospitality.

Mark Sawkins, Vice President Operations for Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems at Accor, welcomed Jiwa’s appointment:

“Her rich international experience and dedication to excellence make her the perfect fit to lead the Queen Elizabeth 2 into its next phase. As we continue to reimagine this iconic ship for today’s travellers, her leadership will be instrumental in shaping guest experiences that honour the vessel’s storied past while embracing its future potential.”

The move also earned praise from Dubai’s government stakeholders.
Saeed Al Bannai, Executive Director of Corporate Support Services at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, commented:

“The Queen Elizabeth 2 is a maritime treasure and a cultural symbol of Dubai’s commitment to preserving heritage while embracing innovation. We are confident that under Shaileen’s leadership, the QE2 will continue to flourish as a premier destination for travellers, events, and cultural exchange.”

Heritage Meets Hospitality

The QE2 offers a rare experience — the chance to stay aboard one of the world’s most famous ocean liners, now transformed into a hotel with original interiors, curated exhibitions, heritage tours, and fine dining experiences.

As General Manager, Jiwa will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s operations, from guest services and events to strategic planning and brand positioning. Her appointment reflects Accor’s and Dubai’s shared vision to preserve cultural landmarks while delivering world-class hospitality experiences.

With its legacy deeply rooted in British maritime history and its future anchored in Dubai’s innovation, the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel stands poised for a dynamic new era.
