Maserati Shines at Misano with Double GT2 Victory

Maserati marked a triumphant return to its home track at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli during the fourth round of the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli. The iconic Italian marque secured two overall runner-up finishes, a pole position, and claimed victories in both Am Cup races, alongside a Pro-Am podium.

The standout performance came from the LP Racing team’s number 1 Maserati GT2, piloted by Philippe Prette. Prette secured pole and led most of Race 1 on Saturday, ultimately finishing second overall while taking the top spot in the Am Cup category. His dominance continued into Race 2, where he maintained the Am class lead throughout and finished fourth overall.

In the Pro-Am division, Dinamic Motorsport’s number 7 Maserati GT2, driven by Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini, delivered a dramatic comeback on Sunday. Starting from sixth, Calamia surged into contention, with Pampanini capitalizing on pit lane incidents to take second overall—securing the team’s best result of the weekend.

Race 1 had its share of drama for the number 7 car. Pampanini, after moving into a strong position, lost control and dropped to tenth. Calamia’s recovery effort salvaged valuable points, setting the stage for Sunday’s rebound.

Maserati’s presence in Misano was not limited to racing. The MCXtrema led the field as the official pace car in a commemorative livery, honouring 20 years since the MC12’s first win at the 24 Hours of Spa. The Trident brand also showcased its commitment to nurturing talent, with 16-year-old Niccolò Pirri testing the GT2 – making history as the youngest to do so in a Maserati.

This aligns with Maserati’s investment in youth development through the new SRO GT Academy. Announced in June, the programme promises the top under-30 driver of 2026 a fully funded GT World Challenge Europe seat in 2027—an unprecedented opportunity.

Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, dedicated the successful weekend to Claudio Bortoletto, a long-time team member and Italian motorsport icon who recently passed away. “At our home race in Misano, we’ve added another glorious chapter to the Trident’s racing story—one built not just on legendary cars, but exceptional people,” Conti said.

With two Am Cup wins and a Pro-Am podium, Maserati’s performance in Misano reaffirms its motorsport legacy as it gears up for its centennial racing anniversary in 2027.

The GT2 European Series continues after the summer break, with the penultimate round set for Valencia, Spain, from 19 to 21 September. Enthusiasts and rivals alike will watch closely as Maserati aims to extend its winning momentum.
