The 24th edition of the prestigious Tile of Spain Awards has officially opened for entries, offering architects and designers in the UAE an international platform to showcase innovative uses of Spanish ceramics.

Organised by ASCER (Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association), the annual competition recognises excellence in Architecture, Interior Design, and Final Degree Projects (FDP). This year’s awards are particularly relevant for the UAE’s design community, as the nation pushes toward its 2050 net-zero emissions target and implements stricter green building regulations.

Spanish ceramic tiles, valued for their sustainable manufacturing processes, energy efficiency, and design versatility, are increasingly being integrated into the UAE’s architectural projects. Developments such as Abu Dhabi’s Al Qana highlight how these materials merge durability, cultural relevance, and environmental responsibility.

“Material innovation is becoming central to the UAE’s architectural identity,” said an ASCER spokesperson. “Spanish ceramics align with the country’s vision for design that is both aesthetically striking and sustainable.”

New Subcategories in 2025

The 2025 edition introduces fresh subcategories within the Architecture and Interior Design segments, classifying projects based on the type of ceramic used. These include dry-pressed porcelain and other ceramics such as mosaics, terracotta, and extruded stoneware.

Entries will be judged by a panel chaired by acclaimed architect Julio Touza Rodríguez, joined by leading figures from global architecture and design. The awards are supported by the Regional Ministry of Finance of the Generalitat Valenciana.

A Global Stage for UAE Talent

For UAE-based professionals, the awards present an opportunity to position their work alongside the best international design projects. With sustainability and cultural integration becoming key differentiators in the region, the competition offers recognition for those pushing boundaries in both form and function.

Last year’s winners demonstrated the adaptability of Spanish ceramics in varied settings—from contemporary urban spaces to heritage-sensitive restorations—highlighting their ability to meet diverse aesthetic and technical demands.

How to Enter

Entries are open to projects completed using Spanish ceramic tiles, regardless of location. The submission deadline is 20 October 2025.

Full competition details, including entry guidelines, can be found at www.tileofspainawards.com.
