Kuwait Telecommunications Company – stc has launched an environmental preservation initiative at Kubbar Island, reinforcing its role as a community-focused digital leader committed to sustainability.
The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Waves App and Alternative, a local restaurant brand, is part of stc’s wider corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda under the “Small Move, Big Impact” campaign. The movement aims to spread awareness about environmental protection and highlight the importance of collective responsibility.
Kubbar Island, located about 30 kilometres off Kuwait’s southern coast, is a popular destination for visitors. In recent years, however, rising numbers of tourists have contributed to waste accumulation, posing risks to the island’s natural ecosystem.
The preservation drive focused on collecting waste and recyclable materials left on the island, with stc’s Corporate Communications team joining volunteers and representatives of partner organisations. The collective effort saw residents and employees working side by side, embodying the company’s vision of uniting community members for a common cause.
As part of the event, visitors were also offered drinks and giveaways in partnership with Alternative, known for its health-focused food. This gesture aimed to encourage participation and promote a more sustainable lifestyle among the public.
stc highlighted that the presence of its employees underlined the company’s long-standing culture of environmental and social responsibility. “Through such initiatives, we aim to inspire communities to act consciously and safeguard Kuwait’s natural heritage,” a company spokesperson said.
The campaign forms part of stc’s broader sustainability framework, which goes beyond one-off initiatives. The company regularly organises activities focused on conservation, education, sponsorship of events, and awareness-building. It views such programmes as a means of creating long-term benefits for society and the environment.
In its statement, stc thanked volunteers, partners, and its employees for their contributions to the campaign, stressing that coordinated efforts between private and public sector stakeholders can lead to significant environmental gains.
Environmental experts in Kuwait have repeatedly raised concerns about the ecological vulnerability of Kubbar Island, urging collective action to preserve its marine biodiversity and delicate ecosystem. stc’s latest initiative aligns with these calls, positioning the company at the forefront of local corporate-led environmental action.
Moving forward, the telecoms provider said it would continue to expand its CSR and sustainability efforts. Plans include more environmental drives, awareness campaigns, and community-focused initiatives designed to deliver lasting positive impact.
Through its “Small Move, Big Impact” initiative, stc seeks to demonstrate that even modest actions, when multiplied by collective effort, can lead to meaningful change. The clean-up at Kubbar Island stands as a testament to that principle — a collaborative step toward preserving Kuwait’s environmental landscape for future generations.
