Qatar Airways has announced that it will begin operating flights to The Red Sea, Saudi Arabia, from 21 October 2025. The service will run three times a week, making it the airline’s 12th destination in the Kingdom.

The new route aims to enhance regional connectivity and provide international travellers easier access to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea development – a luxury tourism destination featuring pristine islands, coral reefs and desert landscapes.

Strategic expansion

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, described the move as part of the airline’s commitment to offering passengers diverse global experiences.

“Qatar Airways’ addition of The Red Sea route to our global network is yet another example of our dedication to providing diverse destinations that the discerning global traveller demands,” he said.

“With this announcement, these travel experiences are now accessible with the World’s Best Airline through our award-winning hub – Hamad International Airport.”

The airline currently operates more than 130 weekly flights across Saudi Arabia, serving destinations including Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. The addition of The Red Sea is expected to boost tourism and investment opportunities.

Growing luxury destination

Red Sea Global Group CEO, John Pagano, welcomed the launch, describing it as “a significant step in our journey to establishing The Red Sea as a premier luxury destination on the world stage”.

He added: “As we continue to open more hotels and attractions, this route makes it easier than ever for travellers to experience unparalleled luxury, explore the rich local Saudi culture, and learn about our pioneering regenerative tourism approach.”

The Red Sea project, which already features five operating luxury hotels, is set to expand further with the phased opening of 11 resorts on Shura Island, along with a championship golf course, retail outlets and cultural attractions.

Flight details

The inaugural flight, QR1226, will depart Doha on 21 October at 09:15, arriving at The Red Sea International Airport at 12:15. The return flight, QR1227, will leave at 14:15 and land in Doha at 16:45.

From then on, flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Departures from Doha will be at 07:45, arriving at 10:45, with the return flights leaving at 11:45 and landing in Doha at 14:15.

The Red Sea airport

The Red Sea International Airport, designed to reflect its desert surroundings, opened in 2023 and is operated by daa International. It has a long-term goal of serving over one million passengers annually by 2030.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club members will be able to earn Avios on the new route, redeemable on flights, shopping and exclusive experiences.

With over 170 destinations already in its network, Qatar Airways says the expansion underscores its role as a global leader in aviation and connectivity.

Bookings are now open through the airline’s website and mobile app.
