Axis Communications has announced the launch of a high-performance recording server designed specifically to optimise artificial intelligence (AI)–based analytics in video surveillance.
The new AXIS Camera Station S1228 Rack AI Optimized Server is engineered to handle intensive workloads such as free text search in AXIS Camera Station Pro Smart Search. It promises to deliver significant improvements in speed and efficiency, even in complex, crowded environments.
According to Axis, the device can process up to ten times more detections than a standard server, depending on scene complexity and resolution. This allows free text search results to appear up to 1,000 times faster in busy scenes, enabling security teams to quickly find moving objects across multiple camera feeds.
The server is powered by a robust configuration that includes an NVIDIA Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), dual Solid-State Drives (SSDs) and a high-capacity processor. It also comes with 28 AXIS Camera Station Pro licences, 12 terabytes of storage and support services designed to ensure long-term reliability.
Enhanced investigations
Axis says the S1228 server will greatly improve investigative workflows by enabling users to search video archives more naturally. Free text search allows operators to enter queries in plain language and instantly retrieve relevant footage, streamlining investigations that would otherwise be time-consuming.
“This solution is tailored for demanding, fast-paced surveillance environments where speed and precision are essential,” the company said in a statement.
The server is particularly suited for locations with high activity such as airports, transport hubs, shopping centres and city surveillance projects, where identifying individuals or incidents quickly can be critical.
Security and compliance
Beyond performance, the S1228 is designed with strict cybersecurity and compliance standards in mind. The server incorporates a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) certified to FIPS 140-2 level 2, ensuring strong encryption and data protection.
It is manufactured in a Trade Agreements Act (TAA)–designated country and complies with both the 2019 and 2023 US National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA), making it eligible for use in government projects. The inclusion of a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) provides additional transparency and regulatory assurance.
Reliability and support
Axis is also emphasising reliability and customer support as key selling points. The server comes with a five-year hardware warranty, Next Business Day Onsite Replacement, and the option to keep hard drives in the event of replacement or disposal — a feature designed to meet stringent data security requirements.
“These features underline our commitment to delivering not only performance but also trust, compliance and long-term value,” Axis said.

Industry observers note that as AI applications in surveillance expand, demand for infrastructure capable of managing large-scale analytics will rise sharply.
