Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Airline & Group, Dubai Quality Group (DQG) has announced the second cycle of the Global Medical Excellence Award, opening for applications from 10 September 2025.
Organised in collaboration with the Balsam Academy for Medical Education and Research, the award seeks to promote innovation, patient safety, and international best practices across the global healthcare sector. It will recognise institutions and individuals in both public and private healthcare, with winners classified into platinum, gold, silver, and bronze levels.
Ms. Samira Mohammed, Director General of Dubai Quality Group, said the initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development and its goal to position itself as a hub for medical excellence and medical tourism. She added that the updated award categories now cover hospitals, clinics, individuals, and medical education, with assessments carried out through desk reviews and site visits.
Dr. Bassam Darwish, President of Balsam Academy, noted that this year’s award coincides with the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Conference, organised with the International Society for Medical Artificial Intelligence. The two-day event will gather around 30 international experts to explore the role of AI in healthcare, while also honouring distinguished figures in health and humanitarian work as part of the “Godfather of Medicine in the UAE” initiative, in memory of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Applications will remain open for two and a half months from launch, with winners honoured by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum at the closing ceremony, to be attended by senior officials, scientists, and innovators.
