AI Usage Among Workers Soars by 233% in Six Months

AI adoption in the workplace has surged dramatically, with daily usage among global desk workers increasing by a staggering 233% in just six months, according to Slack’s latest Workforce Index. The survey of 5,000 desk workers worldwide paints a clear picture: AI is no longer just a tool for automation — it’s becoming a powerful engine of productivity, creativity, and job satisfaction.

The findings highlight a growing trust in artificial intelligence and its role in reshaping how people work. Some 60% of global desk workers now report using AI, with 40% having worked alongside AI agents. Those who use AI agents daily are more than twice as likely to trust the technology in key areas such as data protection, accuracy, and decision-making.

“Workers are embracing AI with growing confidence,” said Slack CEO Denise Dresser. “This isn’t just about automating routine tasks anymore. It’s about levelling up — using AI to develop new skills, enhance creativity, and deliver greater value at work.”

The report also reveals that 96% of AI users have performed tasks they previously lacked the skills to complete, thanks to AI tools and agents. Rather than replacing human input, the technology is being used to boost strategic work such as writing, summarising, and idea generation.

Millennials Lead the Way

Interestingly, Millennials are emerging as the most AI-savvy generation in the workplace. Thirty percent say they thoroughly understand AI agents, surpassing even Gen Z. Meanwhile, 68% of Millennials use AI for strategic work, and 43% of executives report using AI daily — outpacing managers at other levels.

“Millennials have become the surprise power users,” said Lucas Puente, VP of Research at Salesforce. “They’re not just adopting AI — they’re thriving with it.”

In the Middle East, the trend is just as pronounced. “AI enthusiasm is particularly strong among millennials,” noted Mohammed Alkhotani, Salesforce SVP for the region. “We’re seeing it elevate productivity and creativity in meaningful ways. Now it’s up to organisations to support and sustain this momentum.”

Productivity and Satisfaction Boost

The productivity gap between AI users and non-users is significant. Daily users are 64% more likely to rate their productivity as ‘very good’, and 81% report high job satisfaction. They are also more focused, more creative, and — surprisingly — more connected to their colleagues.

“AI has helped me think more strategically and communicate more clearly,” said Haley Gault, a Senior Account Executive at Salesforce. “It’s changed how I work — and how I deliver for customers.”

Far from isolating workers, AI seems to be improving collaboration. Daily AI users are 246% more likely to feel connected to their teams, with Gen Z workers even reporting that AI has increased their workplace engagement.

As trust and usage grow, Slack’s report suggests AI is evolving into an indispensable part of the modern workplace — enhancing, rather than replacing, the human touch.
