ATV is preparing to launch one of its most ambitious drama series of the year, Aynadaki Yabancı (“The Stranger in the Mirror”), with a cast led by Onur Tuna and Simay Barlas. The production, backed by MF Yapım, is set to premiere later this autumn and has already generated widespread anticipation among Turkish television audiences.

The project officially moved forward this week as the cast gathered for its first reading rehearsal in Istanbul. The gathering brought together a host of acclaimed actors and marked the symbolic start of what producers hope will become a flagship series for the broadcaster.

Directed by Eda Toksöz, known for her bold storytelling style, the series has been written by Pelin Gülcan, Lara Bulut Tecim, Batuhan Özbay, and Berşan Tan. Early previews suggest that the drama will blend family intrigue, psychological suspense, and emotional depth.

Storyline of secrecy and survival

At the heart of Aynadaki Yabancı lies the story of Azra, a woman whose seemingly perfect life is shattered by betrayal and danger. Determined to protect her daughter, she flees her old identity, undergoing a transformation that forces her to live under a new face and name.

The narrative explores themes of memory, love, and identity, highlighting how the human mind may seek to erase the past, but the heart never fully forgets. Industry insiders expect the series to resonate with viewers who favour emotionally charged drama coupled with suspenseful twists.

A star-studded cast

Onur Tuna, celebrated for his performances in Yasak Elma and Mucize Doktor, takes on the lead role, bringing his established screen presence to the production. He is joined by Golden Butterfly award-winner Simay Barlas, best known for her acclaimed performance in Yabani. Rising star Caner Topçu also features prominently.

The cast further includes Sara Yılmaz, Emre Taşkıran, Ayten Soykök, Sema Gültekin, Soner Türker, Seher Terzi, Mümin Karaçil, and Nazlı Senem Ünal. Experienced performers Asuman Dabak and Kerem Arslanoğlu round out the ensemble, promising a mix of both veteran gravitas and fresh talent.

Industry buzz

The first rehearsal offered an early glimpse into the chemistry among the actors, and initial reports suggest a strong dynamic between the leads. With its combination of high production values, an experienced creative team, and a compelling plot, the series is already being tipped as a potential hit of the season.

Television critics in Turkey say the show reflects ATV’s ongoing strategy of investing in original dramas with international appeal, aiming to continue the success Turkish series have found abroad.

As the countdown to the premiere begins, fans are closely watching the official social media channels of Aynadaki Yabancı for behind-the-scenes updates and promotional material. For viewers eager for a gripping blend of mystery and emotion, this autumn’s new release looks set to deliver.
