Canon Launches RF 75-300mm Lens for EOS R Cameras

Canon has officially launched the RF 75-300mm F4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens, adding a versatile and lightweight option to its expanding RF lens lineup. Designed for the EOS R System, the new lens is aimed at entry-level users looking to explore wildlife, sports, and action photography with more creative flexibility.

With a flexible 75-300mm focal length range, this full-frame lens delivers strong reach for photographing distant subjects without physically getting close — a crucial benefit for shooting wildlife or capturing fast-moving sports scenes from the sidelines. When paired with an APS-C camera such as the Canon EOS R100, the lens provides an effective focal range of 120-480mm, making it ideal for users who want to get closer to the action.

Despite its long zoom capabilities, the RF 75-300mm remains compact and lightweight, weighing just 507g and measuring 146.1mm in length when retracted. This portability makes it suitable for users on the go, whether visiting a local sports ground or exploring remote natural habitats.

Smooth Zoom and Sharp Detail

A standout feature of the lens is its quick-reacting zoom mechanism. The large zoom ring requires just over a quarter of a turn to transition across the entire zoom range, allowing photographers to respond quickly to sudden changes in subject distance or scene composition.

At the maximum 300mm focal length, users can focus as close as 1.5 metres, making it possible to fill the frame with detailed shots of animals or people without requiring a macro lens. This capability, combined with the lens’s seven-blade circular aperture, allows for elegant background blur, effectively separating the subject from its surroundings.

Optical Enhancements

The RF 75-300mm F4-5.6 is treated with Canon’s Super Spectra Coating, designed to suppress flare and ghosting, which can be problematic in high-contrast conditions such as shooting into the sun or under stadium lights. The result is cleaner, higher-contrast images across the zoom range.

While it may not include image stabilisation or weather sealing found in Canon’s higher-end lenses, the RF 75-300mm targets beginners and enthusiast photographers seeking a budget-friendly, high-performance zoom for travel, nature, and outdoor events.

Expanding the RF Ecosystem

The launch of this lens further expands Canon’s growing RF mount ecosystem, which now caters to a wider range of photographers — from professionals using full-frame cameras like the EOS R5, to casual shooters with compact APS-C bodies. It underscores Canon’s ongoing strategy to bring more accessible gear into its full-frame mirrorless system, helping new users transition from smartphone photography or DSLRs.

The RF 75-300mm F4-5.6 is expected to be competitively priced, making it an attractive option for users seeking high zoom coverage without the weight or complexity of professional glass.

For users taking their first steps into nature or sports photography, Canon’s latest offering provides a dependable, easy-to-use tool for capturing subjects at a distance — all without breaking the bank.
