Canon Launches Subscription Security Service for Businesses

Canon has introduced its new Subscription Security Services, a flexible, tiered offering designed to provide end-to-end protection for business devices, documents and data. The service builds on Canon’s existing print security solutions and aims to simplify security management for organisations of all sizes.

The service is available in two packages — Enhanced Security and Premium Security. Both tiers include device hardening, automated firmware updates, secure data destruction and data backup as standard. The Premium tier extends protection with proactive device monitoring, real-time threat detection, rapid recovery and detailed security insights.

Addressing rising security risks

With the global average cost of a data breach reaching $4.88m in 2024, Canon says businesses need to take more proactive measures to reduce their exposure to security threats.

Quentyn Taylor, Director of Information Security at Canon Europe, said: “As security risks evolve and regulation tightens, businesses need a simpler, more effective way to protect their print fleet. With Canon’s Subscription Security Services, we’re providing comprehensive security capabilities, removing the complexity of device protection so businesses can feel confident they’re receiving the right expertise and best-in-class security – regardless of their fleet size.”

Security essentials

Canon’s service helps businesses establish a unified security policy for all print and scan devices on their network, an area often overlooked in corporate security strategies. Device hardening ensures equipment is configured to resist attacks, while automated firmware updates apply patches promptly to mitigate vulnerabilities without requiring manual intervention.

These measures support business continuity by reducing the risk of disruption from security incidents and keeping devices in compliance with the latest protection standards.

Advanced protection for complex fleets

The Premium tier is designed for organisations managing large or complex device fleets. Continuous monitoring enables security teams to identify and address threats as they arise, while rapid recovery capabilities ensure that compromised devices can be restored quickly.

Canon says the Premium tier’s real-time threat detection reduces potential downtime and safeguards against emerging risks. The service is regularly updated and tested to align with stringent security guidelines, giving organisations assurance that their device configurations meet industry best practices.

Integration with cloud solutions

The Subscription Security Services integrate with Canon’s existing cloud-based tools, including Cloud Connector and uniFLOW Online, to provide a more comprehensive defence. This integration strengthens security across document workflows, reducing the likelihood of data loss or unauthorised access.

The flexible subscription model allows businesses to choose the level of coverage that matches their operational needs and risk profile. Canon says this adaptability ensures organisations can scale their protection as their security requirements evolve.

Industry analysts note that as workplace devices become more connected, securing print and scan infrastructure has become a crucial part of corporate cyber resilience. Canon’s move reflects a growing recognition that print environments can no longer be treated as isolated from broader IT security strategies.
