Cognite launches major update to Atlas AI platform

Cognite, the Norwegian-based leader in industrial artificial intelligence (AI), has announced a significant update to its flagship product, Cognite Atlas AI™, with the aim of accelerating global adoption of AI-powered solutions in the industrial sector.

The company describes Atlas AI as the world’s first low-code industrial AI agent workbench, designed to integrate operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), and engineering data in real time. The latest release, revealed ahead of the Atlas AI Summit in Tokyo on 10 September, promises to simplify and scale the deployment of production-ready AI agents across industries.

Cognite says momentum around the platform is growing rapidly, with new customers onboarding weekly. Current users include Aker BP, ADNOC Offshore, Celanese, Hess Corporation, HMH, Idemitsu, and Tokuyama, supported by partners such as SLB, Radix, Omny, Tridiagonal.ai, and ReVisionz.

Industrial transformation push

“This latest release of Cognite Atlas AI is a true game-changer,” said Nobuyoshi Hojo, General Manager of Technology & Engineering at Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. “AI agents are amplifying our impact and improving safety, reducing plant downtime, and unlocking new levels of innovation across our refineries.”

The company emphasises that Atlas AI goes beyond automation, aiming to provide AI-driven insights that improve decision-making and operational efficiency.

The update includes several new features:

  • Seamless integration with existing Cognite applications to automate root cause analysis, troubleshoot processes, and create work packages.
  • Streamlined agent creation, enabling organisations to build AI agents ten times faster using preconfigured templates.
  • Purpose-built industrial tools to scale deployment and query industrial knowledge graphs.
  • Secure and governed operations, with enhanced user access controls to ensure reliability.

Adoption challenges

A recent PwC survey highlights the difficulties businesses face in scaling AI adoption. While 79% of companies are experimenting with AI agents, only 19% are deploying them at scale. Cognite argues that its latest product release directly addresses this gap.

“Scalable agents depend on precise context engineering and domain models that faithfully represent what matters,” said Joe Lamming, Senior Analyst at Verdantix. “Atlas AI extends Cognite’s DataOps platform to deliver production-grade automation with human oversight.”

Global ambitions

Cognite executives stress that the company’s vision is to make AI a foundational part of industrial operations worldwide.

“The industrial world is at a crucial inflection point,” said Chirayu Shah, Cognite’s Chief Product Officer. “The true value of AI lies not in isolated experiments, but in scalable, production-ready solutions.”

The Tokyo summit, already oversubscribed with hundreds of attendees, will showcase Atlas AI’s latest capabilities and customer success stories. Cognite will also highlight the platform further at Impact 2025, its global industrial AI and data conference.

With adoption spanning the Americas, EMEA, and Asia, Cognite is positioning Atlas AI as a cornerstone technology for industries seeking efficiency, safety, and resilience in an increasingly digital world.
