Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the launch of the Curatorial Foundations Program, a new initiative designed to build curatorial expertise among emerging talent in the UAE. The scheme is being developed in partnership with Node Berlin – Center for Curatorial Studies.
Running from 1 October to 12 December, the hybrid programme will combine online instruction with onsite workshops at the Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. It is open to UAE nationals and residents, including university graduates, artists and cultural practitioners, who wish to gain hands-on experience in curation.
Workshops will cover the full spectrum of exhibition planning — from artist selection and artwork care to media communications, partner collaborations and budget management. Participants will also explore strategies for creating integrated exhibitions that combine curatorial vision with practical execution.
At the conclusion of the course, each participant will present a proposal for a full exhibition, applying the skills and methodologies learned over the programme.
A selective and focused course
Only 10 candidates will be accepted, ensuring an intensive and interactive training experience. The course will be conducted by professional curators alongside trainers from Node Center, which is recognised internationally for its specialist programmes in curatorial practice.
Applications will be accepted between 8 and 15 September, with candidates assessed on their readiness, commitment and interest in the field. Applicants are required to be proficient in English and must demonstrate a foundation in the arts. Submissions should include a CV and, where possible, a creative portfolio.
Supporting Dubai’s creative economy
Dubai Culture said the programme supports its broader ambition to develop the city as a global hub for culture and the creative economy. By equipping emerging curators with international-standard expertise, the authority hopes to strengthen the infrastructure supporting the UAE’s cultural sector.
The initiative comes amid growing investment in cultural institutions across Dubai, including major museums, heritage sites and contemporary art spaces. Officials say the demand for curatorial expertise is rising as the emirate seeks to host more ambitious exhibitions and foster creative collaboration.
“By building capacity in curatorial practice, Dubai is reinforcing its commitment to nurturing talent and supporting cultural innovation,” the authority said in a statement.
The programme reflects a strategic effort to ensure that the UAE’s artistic ecosystem is supported not only by artists and institutions, but also by skilled professionals capable of framing and presenting cultural work to the public.
Expanding opportunities for creators
The Curatorial Foundations Program is expected to attract applicants from across the UAE’s creative community, ranging from aspiring curators to established artists seeking to expand their skills.
With its combination of practical training and conceptual guidance, the initiative represents one of the most comprehensive curatorial training opportunities currently available in the region.
