The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) will celebrate Emirati Women’s Day on 27 August with a community walk and run at Dubai Mall, part of the wider ‘Dubai Mallathon’ initiative.
Launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Mallathon seeks to encourage healthier lifestyles through accessible, indoor activities. The Emirati Women’s Day event is expected to draw participants from across the city, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to recognising women as key partners in national development.
The annual occasion, established under the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak—known as the “Mother of the Nation”—carries the theme “Hand in Hand, Celebrating 50 Years”. It marks half a century of the General Women’s Union, honouring Emirati women’s sustained achievements across social, cultural, and economic fields.
Officials say the celebrations represent more than a sporting initiative; they are a national tribute to women’s contribution over five decades. The Council has underlined that female participation in sport remains a central priority, highlighting the growing numbers of women engaged in its year-round programmes. From school students to homemakers and working professionals, increasing participation has strengthened the talent base for club teams and national squads.
The Dubai Mallathon has already gained momentum this summer, with activities running daily across nine of Dubai’s most prominent shopping destinations. Alongside Dubai Mall, the programme is active in Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Marina Mall, The Springs Souk, Dubai Festival City Mall, and Festival Plaza.
Each venue provides a safe, fully equipped indoor route, designated for both walking and running, operating from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. Organisers stress that the flexibility and accessibility of these routes have allowed residents of all fitness levels to integrate exercise into their daily routines, even during the peak of summer.
The Emirati Women’s Day edition of the Mallathon is designed to bring women of all nationalities together, encouraging community bonding while celebrating shared values of perseverance, health, and empowerment. The DSC says the initiative symbolises how sport can act as a unifying force, while amplifying the voices and achievements of Emirati women.
By combining fitness with national celebration, the event aims to highlight not just physical wellbeing but also social solidarity, reinforcing the UAE’s broader vision of inclusivity and progress.
With Emirati Women’s Day continuing to grow as a landmark event on the national calendar, this year’s Mallathon marks another step in Dubai’s mission to integrate sport into everyday life while acknowledging the central role women play in shaping the country’s present and future.
