Dubai unveils forest-inspired coastal community

Dubai has announced the launch of the Middle East’s first Forest District by the Sea, a visionary project at Dubai Maritime City designed to combine sustainable urban living with natural ecology.

The development, led by BEYOND Developments, marks a major milestone in the emirate’s efforts to reimagine coastal communities around wellness, resilience and environmental sustainability. The project aligns with Dubai’s 2040 Master Plan, the Net Zero 2050 strategy, and the D33 Agenda.

The first step in the project is Talea, a residential tower that embodies the initiative’s ethos of design harmonised with nature. The tower will feature 354 homes ranging from one- to three-bedroom apartments and select four-bedroom penthouses, each offering sweeping views of the Arabian Gulf, Dubai skyline, and the woodland landscape of the Forest District.

Adil Taqi, chief executive of BEYOND Developments, described the launch as more than just another residential offering.
“This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can pioneer solutions to the challenges of climate change and urban wellbeing,” he said. “As someone who lives and works in the city like everyone else, I understand firsthand the need for spaces that truly support healthier, more connected lives. It’s our responsibility as developers to create environments that inspire wellbeing and sustainability.”

Green design at scale

The Forest District will feature over 65,000 square metres of parkland, including 55,000 square metres of native woodland. According to BEYOND, the community aims to achieve up to 75 percent tree canopy coverage.

This greenery is more than aesthetic. Passive cooling strategies, treetop walkways, and shaded recreational areas are designed to create a cooler microclimate in the coastal setting. Green trails, fitness spaces overlooking forest views, and mindfulness zones will support both physical activity and community connection.

“Tomorrow’s cities will be defined by their sensitivity to people, nature and experience,” Taqi added. “Talea is the first step, a place where ecology, design and daily life come together with purpose.”

Living with the landscape

Talea’s architecture draws inspiration from the elements of earth and water. Its flowing design, use of natural tones, and integration of greenery are intended to blur boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. Expansive glazing maximises natural light while reinforcing a connection with the surrounding forest and sea.

Residents will also have access to shaded pools, children’s play areas, and wellness zones woven into the fabric of the Forest District. The project promises a lifestyle where coastal energy and woodland calm coexist.

Dubai Maritime City’s transformation with the Forest District highlights a wider trend of sustainable, ecologically sensitive developments shaping the city’s future. By merging architecture with environmental stewardship, BEYOND Developments aims to position Dubai as a leader in sustainable coastal living.
