The Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island is marking Emirati Women’s Day with a series of cultural and artistic events designed to honour the talent, creativity and achievements of women in the UAE.

The programme, which begins on 28 August, includes an expert panel discussion, an art exhibition, an interactive design experience, and a month-long afternoon tea inspired by Emirati traditions.

A panel on women building the nation

The hotel will host a discussion titled Women Building the Nation at 4pm on 28 August, bringing together voices from architecture, education and the arts.

Architect and academic Asma Bukhammas, who teaches at Zayed University, will speak about her research into desert culture and the often-overlooked contributions of women in design and architecture. Her work highlights how community-based knowledge and oral histories can broaden definitions of success in the built environment.

She will be joined by Ruqaya Al Hashmi, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, ceramics, photography and installation. A graduate of Zayed University and former curatorial intern at Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Al Hashmi often explores themes of memory, space and identity in her work. Both speakers will reflect on their journeys and the wider role of women in shaping the UAE’s cultural landscape.

Month-long art showcase

Following the panel, Al Hashmi will open a solo exhibition in the hotel’s lobby, presented in partnership with the Aisha Alabbar Gallery. Running until 28 September, the collection brings together works that examine the connections between body, space and perception. The exhibition is described as a tribute to the creativity and influence of Emirati women.

Art meets fashion

In collaboration with the luxury accessory brand Lila Kora, the hotel will also host a Canvas-to-Scarf workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own hand-painted artwork which will be transformed into a bespoke silk scarf. The activity is intended to offer a personalised and creative way to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day.

Afternoon tea with a local twist

From 28 August to 28 September, Al Meylas Lounge will serve an Emirati Women’s Day Afternoon Tea. The menu features savoury dishes including lobster man’oushe and goat cheese kunafa nest, alongside sweets such as pistachio raspberry financier and sea salt caramel tart. Priced at AED 260 per person, the set menu combines local ingredients with contemporary culinary flair.

Celebrating achievements

Established in 2015 by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Emirati Women’s Day is held annually on 28 August to highlight women’s contributions to the UAE. The Four Seasons Abu Dhabi’s programme seeks to reflect that vision by combining cultural dialogue, art and hospitality in one venue.
