Ferrari has launched the 849 Testarossa, a hybrid super sports car delivering 1,050 cv and promising to set a new benchmark in performance and sustainability.
The new berlinetta replaces the SF90 Stradale as Ferrari’s most powerful production car, combining a re-engineered twin-turbo V8 engine with three electric motors. The hybrid system allows the Testarossa to achieve unprecedented acceleration while improving efficiency and reducing emissions.
A powertrain built for the future
At the heart of the 849 Testarossa is an 830 cv V8 engine, the most potent iteration of Ferrari’s award-winning power unit. Paired with three electric motors, the system produces a combined 1,050 cv, making it the highest output ever achieved by a road-going Ferrari.
Engineers say the hybrid set-up is designed not just for raw power, but for responsiveness and control, thanks to torque vectoring, an advanced brake-by-wire system and an upgraded electronic stability package. Ferrari has also worked to reduce weight, giving the car the best power-to-weight ratio in its segment.
Aerodynamics and design
The car’s aerodynamic profile has been pushed to new extremes. Ferrari claims the Testarossa generates 415 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, aided by revised cooling ducts and a new diffuser design. Cooling efficiency has improved by 15% compared with the SF90 Stradale.
The styling pays tribute to Ferrari’s heritage. Designers drew inspiration from 1970s Sports Prototypes as well as the original 1984 Testarossa, blending sculpted surfaces with sharp geometry. The car’s proportions, low stance and signature detailing are intended to signal both futurism and continuity with Ferrari’s past icons.
A driver-focused interior
Inside, the cockpit has been overhauled to offer improved ergonomics and digital integration. A new steering wheel with mechanical controls replaces touch-sensitive inputs, responding to driver feedback from previous models.
Ferrari’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) has been upgraded, offering clearer displays, while luxury materials and refined finishes highlight the balance between sport and comfort. Customers can also choose the Assetto Fiorano package, which brings track-oriented upgrades, lighter materials and bespoke detailing.
Sustainability and long-term service
Ferrari has positioned the 849 Testarossa as a step toward greater sustainability. The company has introduced recycled aluminium alloys for key engine components, reducing carbon emissions by up to 0.4 tonnes per car.
As with all Ferrari models, the car will be covered by a seven-year maintenance programme, while the hybrid system comes with extended warranty options.
A new flagship for Ferrari
With this launch, Ferrari says it has reaffirmed its dual commitment to heritage and innovation. While the 849 Testarossa nods to an iconic nameplate from the brand’s history, it also represents Ferrari’s push into an era where hybrid technology underpins performance and sustainability.
Analysts suggest the car will strengthen Ferrari’s appeal among collectors and enthusiasts, while reinforcing its position as a leader in high-performance automotive technology.
