Seoul, South Korea – Kia has officially launched the Tasman, its first-ever pickup truck, designed to deliver class-leading off-road performance, robust towing power, and best-in-class comfort. Developed on a brand-new body-on-frame platform, the Tasman aims to redefine what a midsize pickup can offer in terms of versatility, capability, and innovation.
Built for the Wild and the Road
With a reinforced frame offering up to 1,151kg of payload and a towing capacity of 3,500kg, the Tasman targets a global market of drivers who demand both rugged utility and refined daily usability. The pickup features four-wheel-drive standard on off-road variants and boasts a host of trail-ready upgrades such as an electronic locking differential, Two-Speed Active Transfer Case, and dedicated terrain modes—including a ‘Desert’ setting designed specifically for Middle East and African landscapes.
For rough conditions, the X-Pro variant offers up to 252mm ground clearance and approach, departure, and ramp-over angles designed for serious off-road use. Supporting technologies include Ground View Monitor and Off-Road Page, which provide underbody visuals and real-time vehicle data through the infotainment system.
Powertrain Options for Global Markets
The Tasman will be offered with two engine options: a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine generating 281PS and 421Nm torque, and a 2.2-liter diesel with 210PS and 441Nm. Depending on market, customers can select between an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Both engines are equipped with advanced cooling systems tailored for high-demand scenarios like towing and desert driving, including water- and air-cooled oil coolers. A dedicated Tow Mode ensures optimal gear shifts for stability and efficiency, while features like Trailer Brake Controller and Trailer Stability Assist improve safety.
Serious Cargo Capacity
With a cargo bed measuring 1,573mm in length and 1,600mm in width, the Tasman offers a segment-leading 1,212 litres of volume—capable of fitting standard-size pallets. Integrated convenience features include tie-down hooks, wooden partition slots, side lighting, and a 220V inverter. A wide range of accessories such as canopies, bed covers, and sliding trays further boosts its utility.
Cabin Comfort, SUV-Level Refinement
Inside, the Tasman offers unprecedented comfort in its class, especially in the second row, thanks to Kia’s segment-first sliding-linked reclining seats. The cabin is fitted with laminated acoustic glass and enhanced insulation for a quiet ride. An advanced infotainment system with a panoramic triple-display setup, Harman Kardon audio, and under-seat storage combine practicality with tech-savvy design.
Tested for Every Terrain
The Tasman endured over 18,000 testing cycles across snowy Sweden, sandy UAE deserts, and rugged North American trails under Kia’s ‘One More Round’ development program. The rigorous evaluation ensures it delivers durability and performance to meet diverse global expectations.
With the Tasman, Kia enters the competitive midsize pickup segment not just as a challenger—but as a category reimaginer.
