Turkish actor Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ was visibly emotional at the funeral of his close friend Halit Yukay, a businessman and naval figure whose death shocked many across Turkey.
Tatlıtuğ wept as he stood near the coffin during the ceremony at Ümraniye Hekimbaşı Cemetery in Istanbul. Witnesses said the actor, usually known for keeping his private life out of the spotlight, struggled to contain his grief as his friend was laid to rest.
A tragic discovery
Yukay, 43, had been missing since August 4 after setting out on a journey from Yalova to Bozcaada. His disappearance triggered a lengthy search, ending weeks later when his body was discovered 68 metres underwater. The news left his family and friends devastated, with Tatlıtuğ among those most deeply affected.
Over the years, the two men shared a close friendship, often spending time together away from public attention. Friends of Tatlıtuğ said Yukay was one of the few people the actor truly trusted outside the entertainment industry.
Emotional farewell
At the funeral, Yukay’s wife Rania Stypa remained by his side, while Tatlıtuğ joined mourners in paying tribute. Fellow actress Seda Bakan and her husband were also present to offer condolences to the family.
Observers noted that Tatlıtuğ’s grief stood out, showing the depth of the bond he had with Yukay. For many, it was a rare glimpse of vulnerability from one of Turkey’s most recognisable actors.
Friendship beyond fame
Tatlıtuğ, known internationally for his leading roles in Turkish dramas, has long kept his personal relationships private. Those who knew him and Yukay said their friendship was built on mutual respect, loyalty and trust.
For Tatlıtuğ, Yukay’s passing marked not only the loss of a close companion but of someone he regarded as a brother. His visible sorrow at the funeral reflected a bond that went far deeper than professional success or celebrity.
A shared loss
Halit Yukay’s death is being mourned both by his family and the maritime community in which he was well known. His sudden passing has left a lasting impact on friends and colleagues alike.
For Tatlıtuğ, the farewell was especially painful. His tears, seen by many at the funeral, became a poignant symbol of a friendship that will be remembered with affection despite the sadness of its ending.
