LG unveils energy-saving fridges at IFA 2025

LG Electronics has unveiled its latest refrigerator lineup at the IFA 2025 technology fair in Berlin, showcasing a new generation of energy-efficient appliances tailored for European households.

The new range — which includes French door and bottom-freezer models — reflects LG’s research into Europe’s distinct housing environments and consumer preferences. Combining smart technology with space-conscious design, the refrigerators aim to cut electricity costs while fitting seamlessly into compact modern kitchens.

Surpassing EU energy standards

In a region where efficiency has become a key priority, LG says its new bottom-freezer refrigerator surpasses the European Union’s highest “A” energy rating. The French door model also achieved an “A” rating — a rare feat for this category of appliance, which traditionally consumes more power.

The efficiency gains stem from AI-driven technologies and optimized insulation. The refrigerators can learn household usage patterns, adjusting compressor operations during low-activity hours to minimize electricity use.

Smart features for daily convenience

LG’s AI Fresh system tracks door-opening habits over a three-week period and lowers the internal temperature before peak times, reducing sudden fluctuations that compromise food freshness. The AI Saving Mode further trims energy use by adapting cooling performance to periods of low demand.

Other features include Linear Cooling to reduce temperature swings, Door Cooling+ for rapid cooling, and Fresh Converter+ storage zones that can be tailored for meat, fish or vegetables.

Designed for compact kitchens

Recognising the limited space in many European homes, LG has integrated a Zero Clearance Hinge that allows doors to open up to 110 degrees even when the appliance is placed flush against a wall. Sleek Premium Flat Door styling gives the fridges a built-in look, aligning with current design trends.

The French door model also introduces LG’s first Thin Door design with an ice and water dispenser, alongside an Ultra Slim In-Door Ice Maker that frees up storage space. New interior layouts, including deeper shelves and redesigned baskets, are intended to prevent bottles from tipping and improve usability.

Flexible bottom-freezer models

The bottom-freezer range offers multiple sizes and capacities to match varied kitchen layouts. Adjustable shelving with seven height settings, retractable shelves for bulky items, and moveable accessories such as the “My Box” compartment are designed to maximize storage flexibility.

Focus on sustainability

“LG’s new refrigerator lineup reflects a firm commitment to meaningful innovation, combining outstanding space and energy efficiency with designs that fit seamlessly into modern kitchens,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Home Appliance Solution Company.

He added that the company remains committed to “developing user-centric technologies that enhance everyday convenience, simplify life at home, and have less impact on the planet.”

The new models will be rolled out across European markets later this year following their IFA debut.
