Mediclinic City Hospital, situated in Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), has been officially designated as a Centre of Excellence in Surgical Proctology by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an international body renowned for certifying healthcare quality.

The accreditation marks a significant milestone for the hospital and highlights its commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centred care in the treatment of colorectal, anal and pelvic floor disorders.

The recognition also shines a spotlight on Dr. Valentina Giaccaglia, Deputy Medical Director and Consultant Surgeon at Mediclinic City Hospital, who has become the first female surgeon in the world to receive SRC’s Surgeon of Excellence in Surgical Proctology designation. Her achievement is being hailed as both historic and inspirational within the global medical community.

“This international recognition is a proud moment for Mediclinic City Hospital and the wider Mediclinic Middle East group,” said Hospital Director, David Eglington. “It reflects the extraordinary commitment of Dr. Valentina and our multidisciplinary team to clinical excellence and innovation, and reinforces our position as a regional leader in specialised surgical care.”

Team-based excellence

Mediclinic’s new designation reflects the collaborative work of a wide multidisciplinary team. Colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, physiotherapists, anaesthesiologists, specialised nursing staff and administrative professionals contributed to achieving the international benchmark.

Their integrated approach ensures patients receive comprehensive, evidence-based and personalised care at every stage of treatment.

Dr. Valentina emphasised the importance of the team effort behind the achievement. “Being recognised as a Centre of Excellence is the result of years of dedication to improving outcomes and quality of life for patients. It is a privilege to work alongside such a skilled and compassionate team,” she said.

Endorsement from Dubai Healthcare City

The announcement was welcomed by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), which oversees the healthcare hub in which Mediclinic operates.

Allae Almanini, Chief Operating Officer of DHCA, congratulated Mediclinic, saying: “This notable recognition underscores their persistent dedication to providing healthcare excellence and innovation. At DHCA, we are committed to fostering an enabling ecosystem where our partners can thrive, driving the advancement of high-quality, specialised healthcare services that enhance the well-being of community members across the UAE.”

Commitment to continuous progress

Mediclinic City Hospital has pledged to continue improving its services and outcomes in line with the highest global standards. The designation further cements its role as a regional leader in surgical innovation and patient care.

By achieving this certification, Mediclinic joins a select group of international healthcare institutions that meet rigorous SRC requirements, placing Dubai on the map for advanced surgical expertise and reinforcing the UAE’s ambition to become a global healthcare hub.
