AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation (MKF) has successfully wrapped up its 2025 Ithra Summer programs, a flagship initiative designed to prepare young Bahrainis for future challenges through skill development, leadership training, and community engagement.
Running from June to August, the programs catered to three distinct age groups through Ithra Buds (10–12 years), Ithra Young Leaders (13–14 years), and Ithra Youth (15–16 years). Each track offered a mix of accredited workshops, field visits, interactive challenges, sports activities, and artistic as well as community projects.
Building future-ready skills
The program content was centred around future-focused themes, including artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, creative thinking, financial literacy, and self-discipline. Organisers emphasised hands-on learning, ensuring participants engaged with practical tools that could be applied to both academic and personal growth.
A notable milestone this year was the launch of Ithra Youth, tailored for participants aged 15–16. The new programme aimed to develop leadership abilities, boost self-confidence, and deepen understanding of AI. MKF reported a participation rate exceeding 90%, reflecting both strong demand and the programme’s effectiveness.
Youth-driven design
To ensure relevance, MKF built the content of the programs based on surveys and interviews with the target groups. This approach ensured alignment with the needs and aspirations of Bahraini youth. Workshops also incorporated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), linking personal development to broader global objectives.
H.H. Shaikha Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of MKF’s Board of Trustees, said the programs exemplified the Foundation’s long-term commitment to nurturing youth talent.
“The measurable impact of our Ithra programs reflects our commitment to providing an environment where young people can explore their potential and build their skills for future success,” she said. “They are a core part of our summer initiatives, which also include the Job Shadowing and Training Camp initiatives. We are proud of this ambitious generation and remain dedicated to introducing exceptional opportunities that enrich their educational journey.”
Partnerships and collaborations
The success of the 2025 edition was reinforced through collaboration with over nine leading professional and educational institutions. These included the Child Protection Unit at the Ministry of Interior, the Bahrain Space Agency, the National Bank of Bahrain, Pro Boxing Ladies Studio, Vanilla Café, and Bon Coffee, owned by entrepreneur Ms. Najiba Bousnan.
The Foundation also partnered with prominent individuals, including H.H. Shaikh Turki bin Hamad Al Khalifa, H.H. Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Ms. Donya Madara, Ms. Nayla Al Kaabi, and journalist Yousif Ahmed, all of whom contributed expertise and mentorship.
MKF’s wider mission
Since its establishment in 2011, MKF has positioned itself as a leading non-profit institution in Bahrain focused on youth empowerment and education. Licensed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Foundation’s initiatives are designed to help young people maximise their potential while contributing to Bahrain’s long-term development goals.
Through Ithra and other youth-centred programmes, MKF continues to build pathways for young Bahrainis to thrive in both personal and professional spheres.
