Oman Air has inaugurated its first-ever direct flights to Amsterdam, marking a strategic expansion into the Netherlands and reinforcing the national carrier’s commitment to growing its European network.
The new four-times-weekly service between Muscat International Airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is the first direct connection between Oman and the Netherlands. The route is expected to boost travel, tourism, and trade between the two countries.
The official launch was celebrated with a ceremony at Muscat International Airport, attended by a host of dignitaries including His Excellency Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism; H.H Dr. Faris Al Said, Member of the Technical Team for Oman Promotional Brand; and Her Excellency Stella Kloth, Dutch Ambassador to Oman. Senior Oman Air officials and airport stakeholders were also present.
Speaking at the event, H.E. Al Busaidi said:
“The launch of direct flights between Muscat and Amsterdam marks another step in strengthening Oman’s position as a high-quality, accessible tourism destination. The Netherlands is a key source market for us, and this new route enhances our ability to welcome more visitors to experience Oman’s landscapes, heritage, and hospitality.”
Con Korfiatis, CEO of Oman Air, highlighted the significance of the new service:
“We are delighted to launch services to Amsterdam, a vibrant European gateway and a strategic addition to our network. This route not only connects two dynamic cities, but also opens new possibilities for travellers across the world.”
The launch coincides with a milestone moment for the airline, coming just one day after Oman Air’s official entry into the oneworld alliance. Amsterdam is the first new destination added under the oneworld banner, signalling growing momentum in the airline’s international strategy.
Through oneworld, Oman Air passengers will gain seamless access to more than 900 global destinations, benefiting from enhanced connectivity and loyalty privileges. Meanwhile, European travellers will find it easier to reach Oman and explore its diverse offerings.
The Muscat–Amsterdam route becomes Oman Air’s 11th European destination, joining existing services to Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Rome, Zurich, Istanbul, Trabzon, Moscow, and London—which will increase to double daily in October.
This expansion supports Oman’s broader Vision 2040 tourism goals by enhancing the country’s global accessibility and promoting it as a premium travel destination.
The new route is expected to attract both business and leisure travellers and reflects Oman Air’s long-term commitment to developing strategic air links, expanding its global footprint, and positioning Oman as a key player in the international aviation and tourism sectors.
