The Ritz-Carlton, Amman has become the first hotel in Jordan to receive the VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality Badge, awarded by Forbes Travel Guide, marking a milestone for sustainable luxury in the country’s hospitality sector.

The recognition underscores the property’s commitment to environmental stewardship and socially responsible practices. The VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality Badge is regarded as a global benchmark, assessing hotels against more than 100 standards to ensure genuine, measurable progress in sustainability.

By achieving this certification, the Ritz-Carlton, Amman provides assurance to guests that its sustainability initiatives are more than statements — they are integrated into daily operations without compromising on the luxury experience.

At the heart of the hotel’s approach is its corporate social responsibility programme, Community Footprints, which blends environmental care with local impact. In its kitchens, the property prioritises locally sourced ingredients to support Jordanian farmers while lowering its carbon footprint. It has also introduced creative measures such as converting eggshells into calcium powder and transforming coffee grounds into cookies.

Operational sustainability measures extend across the hotel. Energy-efficient lighting has been adopted, while disposable batteries have been replaced with rechargeable alternatives. In event spaces, water pitchers are provided in place of bottled water, and menus across all outlets have shifted to paperless formats. Guests are invited to contribute by participating in a Linen and Terry Reuse Programme designed to save water and energy.

These initiatives are part of Marriott International’s Serve 360 strategy, which guides its global sustainability and social impact efforts, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The brand’s targets include ambitious 2025 milestones across carbon reduction, community engagement, and waste minimisation.

Receiving the Forbes VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality Badge is seen as a powerful validation of these efforts, positioning the Ritz-Carlton, Amman as a leader in responsible luxury.

“Embedding sustainability into every aspect of the guest journey has been central to our mission,” a hotel spokesperson said. “This recognition reinforces our dedication to creating meaningful impact in Jordan while delivering the exceptional service and elegance our guests expect.”

The award highlights a growing trend in luxury hospitality, where properties are expected not only to provide world-class experiences but also to demonstrate genuine accountability towards the environment and their local communities.

For Jordan’s tourism industry, the Ritz-Carlton, Amman’s recognition signals a significant step in aligning luxury travel with sustainability, potentially setting a new standard for hotels across the region.
