Samsung Electronics has announced the expansion of its One UI software platform to its lineup of home appliances, a move designed to unify the user experience across smartphones, televisions and connected household devices.
The update will roll out to Wi-Fi-enabled appliances launched in 2024, starting this September. Customers will also benefit from seven years of software updates, marking one of the longest support commitments in the home appliance sector.
Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, said the step reflects the company’s mission to create a consistent digital environment across all product categories.
“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes. This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices,” he said.
A unified digital ecosystem
The expansion is part of Samsung’s broader strategy to make One UI the common platform across its mobile devices, TVs and smart appliances. Users will see familiar design elements and functionality across products, helping families interact more easily with their devices.
Apps such as Bixby, Gallery and Samsung TV Plus will now be available across different screens, enabling seamless media consumption and integration. Through SmartThings, devices are woven into a single ecosystem, giving users access to services such as Family Care, Pet Care and Home Care.
Features like Now Brief will also be introduced to appliances, offering at-a-glance updates including weather forecasts, family schedules, personalised recipes and notifications such as washing machine cycles.
Seven years of updates
Samsung confirmed that all Wi-Fi-enabled appliances launched from 2024 onwards will receive up to seven years of software updates. The move supports security, functionality and product longevity in a market where most home appliances are expected to last a decade or more.
This commitment applies to major appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, ovens and air conditioning units.
Key updates coming in September
Several notable updates will be released for 2024-launched models:
- Enhanced security: Samsung’s Knox Matrix, a blockchain-based system, will be extended to a wide range of appliances. Screen-equipped devices like Family Hub refrigerators and Bespoke AI washers will also receive advanced protections such as encrypted Credential Sync and Passkey support.
- Smarter features: AI Vision Inside, capable of recognising packaged and fresh foods, will be added to refrigerators. Bixby will receive Voice ID support, allowing for personalised responses based on individual voices.
- Service expansion: Samsung TV Plus will extend to India, Canada and Brazil. Washing machines with 7-inch screens will support eight additional Indian languages, including Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati.
- Refreshed design: Appliances will adopt the updated One UI interface first introduced on 2025 models, with improved navigation and localised settings.
A step towards intelligent homes
The expansion of One UI underscores Samsung’s ambition to create a cohesive digital household, where phones, TVs and appliances interact seamlessly.
By combining personalised services, stronger security and long-term support, Samsung hopes to position itself at the forefront of the global smart home market.
The rollout in September will mark the first stage of this plan, with updates continuing over the years to ensure longevity and consistency across its connected ecosystem.
