Sharjah Airport has announced the resumption of direct flights to Damascus, operated by Air Arabia, restoring a key air link between the UAE and Syria after years of suspension. The route will now operate twice daily between Sharjah Airport and Damascus International Airport, catering to the rising demand for travel between the two nations.

The first flight was marked by a welcoming ceremony attended by senior officials, including H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), Dr. Ziad Yahya Zahreddine, Consul General of Syria in the UAE, and H.E. Adel Al Ali, CEO of Air Arabia. Representatives from key government and tourism bodies also took part in the event.

A Milestone in Sharjah’s Expansion Strategy

H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa described the relaunch as a strategic milestone in Sharjah Airport’s mission to enhance regional air connectivity.

“This step reflects our ongoing efforts to position Sharjah Airport as a leading travel gateway, while contributing to the growth of economic and tourism exchanges between the UAE and Syria,” he said.

The move is part of the Authority’s wider vision to improve passenger services, supported by advanced infrastructure and a highly trained workforce. SAA aims to deliver a safe, seamless travel experience, reinforcing Sharjah’s role as an emerging regional aviation hub.

Supporting Family Travel and Economic Links

The new route also reflects growing demand for flights between the UAE and Syria, especially among families, business travellers, and the Syrian diaspora. The route offers flexibility and comfort, while also playing a critical role in reconnecting communities and fostering bilateral economic ties.

The twice-daily schedule enables convenient options for travel and transit, making it easier for passengers to stay connected with loved ones and participate in the economic rebuilding and tourism revival in Syria.

Powered by Technology and Partnerships

Sharjah Airport continues to focus on attracting regional and international carriers, with a strategy rooted in technological innovation and service excellence. The Airport Authority has adopted the latest digital tools to ensure operational efficiency, while expanding its network of partnerships to meet the surge in travel demand.

This announcement adds to Sharjah’s growing network of global destinations and supports the emirate’s vision of becoming a leading player in the international aviation sector, guided by sustainability, connectivity, and hospitality.

Passengers can now book flights via Air Arabia’s website or through approved travel agents, as Sharjah Airport moves forward with its commitment to enhanced air mobility and regional integration.
