Shell and the Nissan Formula E Team have officially extended their long-standing technical collaboration, marking another chapter in their partnership within the FIA Formula E World Championship. The renewed agreement aims to drive further innovation in electric vehicle (EV) performance, with a strong focus on sustainable mobility and advanced lubricant technologies.

As the sport enters Seasons 11 and 12, the two companies will continue their co-development of Shell EV-Plus fluids, which include bespoke E-Transmission and E-Thermal fluids engineered specifically for the intense demands of Formula E racing. These fluids are designed to enhance thermal management and efficiency—critical factors in the wheel-to-wheel street races that define the championship.

Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal of the Nissan Formula E Team, emphasized the importance of the renewed collaboration:

“We’re very proud to be continuing our technical collaboration with Shell. By integrating Shell’s cutting-edge lubricant technology with Nissan’s leading innovation in Formula E, we are accelerating a future where high-performance engineering and sustainability drive hand in hand.”

Volpe highlighted how the partnership not only enhances on-track performance but also feeds into road-relevant innovations — embodying the “track-to-road” development philosophy at the heart of Formula E.

From Shell’s side, the commitment to electrification and carbon reduction remains a driving force.
Aysun Akik, Shell Lubricants’ Vice President of New Business Development and Global Key Accounts, noted:

“This technical partnership is a testament to Shell’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV performance. The development of our EV-Plus fluids has been driven by Formula E’s extreme demands, enabling innovation that will ultimately benefit future road vehicles.”

Tom Kassell, Shell’s Motorsports Partnership Lead, added that the partnership represents a strategic milestone in Shell’s mission to shape the future of mobility.

“We are committed to developing top-tier products that deliver superior performance and sustainability in the world of electric vehicle racing.”

The partnership plays a key role in both companies’ broader ambitions — Nissan’s leadership in EV technology and Shell’s progress in clean energy solutions. As electric motorsport continues to gain prominence, collaborations like this serve as essential proving grounds for the next generation of high-efficiency, low-emission technologies.

With Shell’s advanced eFluids and Nissan’s powertrain engineering, the duo is set to keep pushing limits—on the track and beyond—as they help shape the future of electric mobility.
