SHIKA-Q puzzle battle game set for global release

Japanese developer AGNI-FLARE CO., LTD. has announced the worldwide release of its new online competitive puzzle game SHIKA-Q, due in Fall 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.

The company, based in Yokohama, described SHIKA-Q as a “fusion of strategy, music, and competitive speed,” aiming to redefine puzzle gaming with real-time online battles, dynamic visuals, and a unique music-driven experience.

Real-time puzzle combat

At its core, SHIKA-Q places players on a 10×10 board, where linking blocks unleashes rapid-fire attacks and defensive manoeuvres against opponents. Unlike traditional puzzle games, developers say SHIKA-Q emphasises split-second decision-making and fast-paced tactics, likening it to a fighting game rather than a typical puzzle title.

The developers highlight the speed and unpredictability of each match as central to its appeal. Victory depends not only on puzzle-solving ability but also on timing, reactions and strategic use of available moves.

Music at the heart of play

In a departure from conventional puzzle formats, SHIKA-Q integrates original vocal tracks as a driving force of gameplay. Rather than serving as background music, each track actively shapes the battle atmosphere, with character songs written to symbolise the tension of the match.

The game’s Challenge Mode will include 20 evolving tracks for solo play, while a Battle Pass system offers 10 additional character-inspired songs across five seasonal themes, available in both Standard and Premium tiers.

According to the studio, this focus on music aims to create “unprecedented immersion,” blending rhythm, strategy and competition into one experience.

Characters and worldbuilding

A roster of distinctive characters will be unveiled gradually, each tied closely to the game’s vocal tracks and battle style. AGNI-FLARE has promised further announcements in the coming months, suggesting that character design and narrative elements will play a key role in differentiating SHIKA-Q from its puzzle game predecessors.

Online play and replayability

The title will feature ranked online matches, alongside seasonal competitive events linked to the Battle Pass, designed to ensure long-term replayability. The structure aims to attract both casual players and dedicated esports-style competitors.

In a statement, the SHIKA-Q Development Team said: “Thanks to our small, agile team, we achieved visual and musical dynamism never seen before. With SHIKA-Q, we aim to deliver a fusion of strategy and immersion—through music and gameplay—to players worldwide.”
