Shine Flips Hiring Script with Recruiter Challenge

In an innovative twist on traditional hiring practices, Saudi-based event staffing company Shine is inviting aspiring recruiters to join its Recruiter Challenge — a competitive, multi-stage selection process where candidates interview the company, not the other way around.

Instead of standard job interviews, the company has devised a real-time test of recruitment skills through practical challenges such as CV scanning, conducting interviews, and situational assessments. The campaign tagline says it all: “We’re hiring, but we don’t want to interview you — we want you to interview us.”

The Recruiter Challenge reflects Shine’s broader approach to talent acquisition — one that places creativity, confidence, and capability at the forefront of every hiring experience.

Founded in 2020, Shine has made a name for itself as one of Saudi Arabia’s premier staffing firms, working behind the scenes at some of the Kingdom’s most high-profile events. From Formula 1 and the FIFA Club World Cup to cultural showcases like the Islamic Arts Biennale and Noor Riyadh, Shine specializes in sourcing and training guest experience professionals, including hosts, tour guides, and protocol staff.

The Recruiter Challenge marks the latest evolution in Shine’s creative hiring playbook. Previous campaigns have already challenged norms and attracted praise for transforming routine interviews into immersive, themed experiences.

One such example was “Shine Museum”, a hiring event designed to recruit tour guides for Noor Riyadh, the world’s largest light art festival. Instead of traditional interviews, candidates were asked to memorize and present artworks in a mock museum setting.

In another bold move, the company hosted “Ladies Night”, a recruitment drive dedicated to celebrating women in the workforce. The Shine office was transformed with pink décor, upbeat music, and even karaoke — a far cry from the usual boardroom setups. Candidates not only felt seen, but also celebrated.

Now, with the Recruiter Challenge, Shine is taking things a step further.

“We’ve turned the tables and put the power in the candidates’ hands,” said Saud Al Hashil, founder of Shine. “This experience is curated to be exciting and enjoyable, bringing out the best in each participant. We want to hire top recruiters by watching them do what they do best — in action.”

Al Hashil emphasized that the strategy is about more than just theatrics. “We believe this strengthens our ties with the community and helps uncover hidden talent. The more creatively you let people express themselves, the more they shine.”

As Saudi Arabia continues to invest in its creative economy and global events, staffing firms like Shine are poised to play an increasingly visible role — not only in how events are experienced, but also in how the people behind them are discovered.
