Swiss-Belhotel to Launch Boutique Hotel in Tanzania

Swiss-Belhotel International has announced its latest expansion into Africa with the signing of a new luxury property in Tanzania. The five-star Swiss-Belboutique Masaki Dar es Salaam will be located in the upmarket district of Masaki, on the Msasani Peninsula, and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.

The agreement was formalised between Swiss-Belhotel International and Astra Capital Limited, marking a strategic partnership aimed at delivering an elevated hospitality experience in one of East Africa’s fastest-growing markets.

Joel C. Makanyaga, Owner of Astra Capital Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“We are glad to collaborate with Swiss-Belhotel International, a globally respected brand. Together, we look forward to creating a destination that reflects the vibrant spirit of Dar es Salaam.”

Designed to cater to both international and local guests, the Swiss-Belboutique Masaki Dar es Salaam will offer 72 upscale rooms and suites. Facilities will include two restaurants, a stylish bar, a spa, swimming pool, conference rooms, and select retail spaces. The boutique hotel aims to blend contemporary architecture with personalised service and authentic East African charm.

Gavin M. Faull, Chairman and President of Swiss-Belhotel International, emphasised the group’s commitment to expanding in high-potential markets.

“This hotel represents our dedication to bringing the Swiss-Belhotel International standard of excellence to new and exciting destinations. Tanzania’s tourism and business sectors are growing rapidly, and this property will serve as a flagship for our boutique brand in the region.”

Located in Masaki—known for its embassies, upscale residences, and commercial hubs—the hotel will be ideally positioned to serve both leisure and business travellers.

Laurent A. Voivenel, Senior Vice President – Operations & Development, EMEAI, added:

“This hotel will offer thoughtfully curated experiences, exceptional dining, and modern wellness and business amenities. Its location makes it perfect for today’s discerning travellers looking for a blend of comfort and style.”

Swiss-Belhotel International currently operates properties in more than 20 countries, and the Dar es Salaam project underscores its broader ambitions across Africa. The company’s boutique brand aims to bring a fresh perspective to high-end hospitality, offering design-forward spaces and tailored guest experiences.

As tourism infrastructure continues to develop in Tanzania, the arrival of Swiss-Belboutique is expected to add further momentum to the country’s hospitality growth. The project also reflects increased investor interest in Africa’s urban centres, where rising demand is driving the next generation of hotel development.

The signing of Swiss-Belboutique Masaki Dar es Salaam adds to Swiss-Belhotel’s growing international portfolio and positions the group to play a key role in the future of East Africa’s luxury hospitality sector.
