Momentous birthday for millennium girl

Abu Dhabi resident Sofea Erina turned 12 years old this week on a very special date. We spoke to her to find out more about her auspicious birth date

What makes your birthday this year so special?

Twelve years ago on this date, I was born into this world. This year is super special because I will be 12 years old on 12th December 2012 or 12.12.12.

Next year I’ll be 13 on 12th December 2013 or 13 on 12.12.13, still a cool series of numbers but not as awesome as this year.

What are your birthday plans?

Since my birthday will fall on a school exam day, my family and I will celebrate it before and after the actual date 12.12.12.

On the way to school, I’ll listen to Virgin Radio and try my luck to get a birthday wish from Kris Fade, my favourite DJ. I’ll do my second-to-last exam paper – English. At midday I’ll make my 12.12.12 wish. I’ll have dinner with my family – hopefully there will be a ‘treasure hunt’ for my presents. I have to look for clues and solve puzzles on my own, inside or outside my home in search of my presents. At midnight I’ll make another millennium wish.

What do you like about living in Abu Dhabi?

On 13th December 2007 my family and I moved to Abu Dhabi. People say there’s no other place like home, but since then I began to realise that there is another place called home – here in Abu Dhabi – because Abu Dhabi is a safe and prosperous city to live in, there are a lot of friendly Emiratis and expats from all over the world and there are plenty of parks, clean beaches and malls to go to.

I am grateful that my family and I got the opportunity to stay here in Abu Dhabi and experience the wealth of hospitality and colours of unity.
