School fees on the rise
(0 votes, average 0 out of 5)

Education costs in the UAE represent the biggest year-on-year increase that residents face, according to official data for March 2010.
Increasing at a rate of 10.46 percent, the cost of education outranked consumer prices, which rose by 0.68 percent, and housing/energy costs, which rose by only 0.5 percent, compared to March 2009.
In the face of current economic difficulties however, directors at the Ministry of Education are considering a plan that would freeze school fees for the next two years. The plan would allow schools to raise their fees by a maximum of 20 percent once every three years. Schools that raised their fees last year would not be allowed to do so again until 2012.
