One of the capital’s most popular amateur competitions is back for its third season of action – and this time the Abu Dhabi Football League (ADFL) is promising to be bigger and better than ever.

The UAE FA endorsed official amateur competition will kick off the 2012/13 season on 22nd October at Zayed Sports City (ZPC), with a pot of

AED 80,000 set aside for the eventual league winners.

The new ADFL season follows the success of two previous campaigns that attracted all the top amateur teams in Abu Dhabi but this year organisers Mediapro Middle East and ZSC hope to attract additional players to the pool of more than 700 already taking part.

“We are excited to have reached an agreement with ZSC to stage the ADFL for the next three years at the best football venue in the UAE and it will be a fantastic competition for the players not only because we have increased the prize money substantially but also in regards of the playing on the natural turf pitches,” said Eric Gottschalk, CEO of Mediapro Middle East.

“The league has developed tremendously since its start in early 2011 and with such professional facilities at our disposal the league is ready to grow in size and quality of play,” he added.

All 32 participating teams in two divisions will be guaranteed a weekly fix of football for at least 22 weeks with the overall winners crowned National Amateur Football League champions at a gala presentation ceremony at the close of the season.

The league is governed by the rules and regulations of FIFA and the UAE FA with local amendments for seven-a-side play.

This season kicks-off on 22nd October at 8.30pm and draws will be released on the official website. For more information visit: www.adfl.ae
