Think Pink this October

There’s nothing like watching a close friend battle breast cancer to make you realise how insignificant your own day-to-day problems really are.

thinkpink

That long-list of ‘things to do’ – that promotion at work, fixing the shelves in the spare room; all the excuses we use to put off focusing on ourselves – all these things can wait.

Nothing is more important than your health and that of your loved ones. It’s a simple message, but one it seems that we constantly need to be reminded of.

Each year around 160 women in Abu Dhabi are diagnosed with breast cancer, and early detection is still the best possible way of beating this global killer.

That’s why each October we Think Pink. Whether that involves dressing up in pink clothes and feather boas for a walkathon, reminding friends to go for their yearly mammogram or simply celebrating another day of being cancer free with friends, it’s an excuse to focus our attention on the continuing fight against breast cancer.

Throughout the month various venues across the capital will be hosting a series of fundraising and awareness events, and we’ve listed most of them.

From Pink Corner locations, where women can get the latest information on self-screening and women’s health centres, to walkathons, fun runs and Pink Polo matches, it’s all in this week’s issue.

Our particular favourite … head to Tips and Toes for your regular mani/pedi combo and 20 percent of the treatment price will instantly be donated to a local breast cancer charity. It’s really as simple as that.
Or why not head on down to Ghantoot Polo Club on 22nd October for their Pink Polo exhibition game? Ladies who visit the ADCB Gorgeous Garden will get a free Estée Lauder make-up consultation.

Whatever you do this month to Think Pink, don’t forget to give yourself a BSE (breast self-examination).
