Mine's a Mustang
We’ve created Drive for Abu Dhabi’s car enthusiasts and each week we’ll be meeting a local petrol head who is just dying to tell you about their favourite ride.
This week’s car nut is offshore engineer Eirik Midttun, the proud owner of a 2007 Ford Mustang.
Did you always dream about owning a Mustang?
Yes, but only the classic ones from the 1960s. When they came out with the 2005 design I was very excited. Finally a modern Mustang I really liked. Now I own a 2007 GT California Special.
What do you love about it?
I like how the design is reminiscent of the original. I love the spoon on the hood and how it comes alive with a big roar. I can even fit two adults and two kids, with car seats in it!
Is there anything you don't like about it?
It could be a bit more responsive on the throttle. Perhaps when the warranty is up I'd take it in for a bit of tuning. Being an automatic with no sport setting doesn't help either.
If you could race your car anywhere, where would that be and why?
I would be too afraid of crashing if I were ever to race. I've only raced on PlayStation before and feel like I spend most of my time outside the track than on it!
What is your dream car now that you own a Mustang?
I'd love to get a GT500 next. It would have even more of the stuff that makes the GT so great. As I get older, more sensible and can't fit the kids in the Mustang, perhaps a Porsche Cayenne will do.
What was the first car you ever owned - did you love it/hate it?
It was a camperised, rusty 1978 GMC Vandura with a 350 engine. My girlfriend and I drove it around the States for two months. It was great fun and we are now married!
