Lewis De Mesa explores the Emirates from a different perspective
Abu Dhabi Week was lucky enough to catch up with the brilliant Lewis De Mesa this week, creator of the time-lapse masterpiece Emirates Winter.
You might have seen one of your friends sharing it on Youtube or facebook, and with good reason. Even if you’re a long time resident of the UAE, you’ll be amazed at the images that Lewis has managed to capture on his journey around the seven Emirates, each one unique and taken from a completely different viewpoint.
Lewis started his project in January 2011 and finally completed shooting in May of this year.
“My goal was simply to explore and look for interesting unique sceneries around the UAE, and capture its beauty with time-lapse photography,” he said.
“The winter season plays a big part in my journey, as it’s the best time to chase visible fluffy clouds with a true blue sky that only exist to the human eye at this time of the year.”
Lewis’s incredible journey saw him travel around 4,000 kilometres, visiting Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
“I ended up going more than once to a few locations. The whole trip was very exhausting and time consuming, but it was all worth it in the end. I’ve seen so many beautiful places here in the UAE, plus I enjoyed all the long drives as well as being close to nature and far away from city for a while.”
Ryan Scully, a freelance composer based in New York, is responsible for the beautiful and emotional score, which was created specifically for the video.
“I found Ryan on the internet so completely at random, but he’s done an amazing job and I’m very pleased with the finished result. I just hope people enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it!”
